From Rock Bottom to 180: How to Take the First Step Toward Real Change
There’s a moment in life—when the mirror feels heavier than your body ever could, when your thoughts echo with defeat, and your energy is so low it feels like moving forward is impossible. That moment is called rock bottom.
I’ve been there.
And if you’re reading this, maybe you’re there too.
But here’s the truth that most people won’t tell you: rock bottom isn’t the end. It’s the foundation. The place where you can finally stop falling… and start rebuilding.
My 180 Started at 255 lbs
I was strong—but overweight. I had goals—but no consistent plan. I believed in God—but didn’t believe in myself. I knew I was capable of more, but I just couldn’t get traction. Every Monday felt like a restart. Every weekend felt like a backslide.
Then on January 13th, everything changed.
I made one commitment: no more restarts.
I didn’t try to change everything at once. I chose one daily habit—fasting—and stuck to it. I didn’t let emotions dictate my actions. I didn’t wait for motivation. I made a vow to myself and to God that I would show up every day, no matter how I felt.
That’s where the 180 began.
So How Do You Take the First Step?
If you're feeling stuck, here are 5 principles that guided my first steps—and they can guide yours:
1. Start With One Win
Forget changing everything overnight. Choose one thing you can commit to daily. For me, it was a morning fast and a workout before the sun came up. For you, it might be walking 20 minutes. Just win today.
2. Set a Time to Change, Not Just a Goal
Don’t just say “I want to lose weight.” Say, “Every morning at 4:30 AM, I train. Every night at 9:00 PM, I shut it down.” Your schedule is more powerful than your willpower.
3. Make It Deeper Than Looks
This isn’t just about abs or pounds. It’s about becoming the kind of person who can be trusted—with your body, your family, and your calling. Let your why be stronger than your weakness.
4. Track, Don’t Guess
I track everything—weight, meals, workouts, supplements. You don’t have to obsess, but you do need data. Progress requires proof.
5. Involve God in Your Process
I’m not here to preach a perfect life—but I will say this: every real change in my life has started with surrender. When I got honest with God, I got clarity with myself. That’s when things started to move.
What My 180 Gave Me
Since that January day, I’ve dropped from 255 lbs to 213, gotten stronger than I was at my heaviest, and built a life system that runs on discipline—not emotion. But more than that… I’ve become the man my family needs. The man I needed years ago.
And now? I help others do the same through coaching, my 180 books, and daily content on social media.
So What About You?
If you’re tired of quitting…
If you’ve had enough of going in circles…
If you’re sick of being stuck…
Then this is your moment.
You don’t need a full plan. You need one step. One decision. One “I’m done with this life, and I’m ready for more.”
That’s where the 180 begins.
